I'm sure if you read my last entry, you probably know what I'm about to say. But since I live in the state of Ohio, I have to keep my celebrations to a minimum, so with that I say:
yay Magic!!!
That is all I will say. I am super excited myself and I am super excited for my city, we have been needing this joy for the longest time- not that Cleveland doesn't need it either or anything ha-ha.
Back to the sad reality, I still don't have a job. I've been talking to a bunch of different people about internships and what not, but most of the ones that are offered are volunteer. So hopefully I'll have something going on before the quarter is over, or else it could be a long stressful summer.

yes, and let me say it again, "BLUE AND WHITE IGNITE!!"
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, let me clarify. This is the famous Orlando Magic slogan to pump up the crowds and fans and I say it because right now I am watching Game 7 of the Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics series. One of the things I have failed to mention throughout my blogs is that I am a huge Orlando Magic fan. Ever since the days of Horace Grant, Shaq, and Penny Hardaway, my life and basketball has never been the same. The thing that sucks is that the Magic has never been good and have always choked.
But not this time, this is our season.
One of the worst parts about being a Magic fan in Ohio is that I get to listen to all the Cavalier fans talk about how good their team is. I'm not one to talk trash, but I definitely think that if we can make it out of the Boston series, we are going to give the Cavs some problems.
But enough about the Magic, let me get you guys caught up on my hectic week. First, pledging a fraternity has been a lot harder than I anticipated. Don't get me wrong, it's one of the most exciting times I've ever had, but it's very time consuming. Speaking of exciting times, on Saturday afternoon I had the opportunity to participate in an Alpha Phi's (a sorority on campus) event called Mud Tug. The two components of this event involved a tug-of-war rope and a giant mud pit. As much as the whole point was to have a tug-of-war competition, it basically turned out to be a huge wrestling match in the mud.
In addition to fraternity stuff, I think I have actually decided what I am going to major in: Strategic Communication. This is the communication aspect of sales, marketing, advertising; it basically involves promoting a product in such a way to promote awareness and hopefully create a profit. I figured that since I have the ability to watch a commercial and see what their motives are to make me buy the product, this major is a no brainer. If you have no idea what I just said, then no worries, that's why I'm majoring in it ha-ha.
And finally, one of my biggest concerns is trying to find a job for this summer. This process seems to never end, which is possibly due to the fact that no one is hiring. Ugh, what am I going to do? And the strangest part of all is that I have two job possibilities set up for the autumn quarter. Hopefully something will come up soon so ya'll won't have to hear me complain about it.
Now my Magic are starting to slip and I keep getting distracted from this blog by yells of "let's go boston." I hope everyone has a good day and I'll keep you posted on upcoming things (hopefully a job!)

I've had quite an exciting weekend. For starters, I came home on Friday night and surprised my mom for mother's day. It was by far the best surprise I have ever been a part of-my mom had absolutely no idea. This was also impressive because I have never been good at keeping secrets. I'm always the one that turns red and spills the beans. But the best part of the surprise was my selfish desire to be home and have a good night sleep in my bed.
On top of being at home, I've been able to reunite with some friends I haven't seen since I left for OSU. That's the one thing that results from going to college: you find out who's really important in your life and you strive to keep relationships with them. Unfortunately for myself, I let too many people get away from me and I had to clear up past relationships on this trip. If I could give any sort of advice to prospective students, remember that going to college is an exciting time for new development and adventure, but don't forget about the people that helped you get to where you are today. Because it is those people, or that one person, that pushed you beyond your limits and made you the better person you are today. It would be a shame to lose them over something stupid like space and time.
But back to last week at OSU: let's just say there was a ton of stuff going on and off campus. Like I mentioned in my last blog, I am pledging a fraternity. I'm not allowed to say what I'm doing exactly, but just know that its a huge time commitment. On top of that, through the Ohio State Activity Board, I was able to listen to the writer of LOST talk about upcoming episodes and all the secrets of the show. This was a huge deal because I am one of those annoying LOST fans. Then on Friday the same activity board hosted a giant carnival on the South Oval ( a giant quad area) full of cotton candy, carnival rides, and even a ferris wheel! It was incredible.
Today I am flying back to Ohio and saying goodbye to the 90 degree highs and obnoxious mosquitoes. That's the one good thing about Ohio, no stupid mosquitoes!

Journey- Anyway You Want It
It has been a great week-weather wise.
I mean school- wise it's been a little difficult with all the midterms and exams that are taking over my life. But like I've been told many times before, "welcome to college, nothing is easy." This might possibly be the hardest/busiest 10 weeks of my life. On top of trying to excel in all of my classes, I have to now make time for this fraternity, work at the front desk of my hall, mingle with prospective students on tours, and somehow manage to stay in shape. I think if there was ever an example of how to use time management, one would look at my ridiculous daily schedule. Trying to be as optimistic as possible, I think that when I make it through this quarter, I will be so much more better off as a person. I know that sounds super cheesy but its true.
But enough about how much my life is going to such in the next few days, because you know you do not want to read any of that crap. Better yet, let's talk about the Spring Game!
On Saturday, we had our annual "Showdown at the Shoe," in which students (for free) got to see the OSU Lacrosse team play as well as the Ohio State spring game between the Scarlet and the Grey. This game is basically a scrimmage. It's interesting to see what we have to look forward too in September, but other than that it's pretty dull. The only exciting aspects of the game were that:
1) We got to soak up some sun in the stadium (it was a high of 85)
2) Since the weather was so nice, the student section was beach themed and we were given leis
3) All of the music was beach themed, you know like Bob Marley, Beach Boys, etc.
4) We had the largest crowd of any NCAA spring game: 95,722 people!
But with all this awesome weather comes some intense downfalls. It's so nice outside that everyone is getting the feeling of procrastinating and doing homework later so that we can go play outside. It's so hard to focus and be like " Hey sorry I can't come play football or throw the friz today, I have to go to the library and study."
Oh boy, this is definitely going to be an interesting quarter.

Wow I cannot believe it is already week 4 of spring quarter, you know what that means? There are only 6 more weeks left in my first year of college! Oh boy, where did the time go?
This week has been pretty uneventful, just lot's of class, working at the front desk of my dormitory, and trying to sleep as much as possible. However, the spark that started my weekend was on Thursday evening when I went to the Hare Krishna house on campus. The only reason why I adventured all the way out to this place was because I have to write a "Field Observation" paper for my Comparative Studies class about their beliefs, rituals, etc. Before I talk about this experience, if you've never heard of the Hare Krishnas there a branch of Hinduism. They can be seen across many national university campus handing out free food and dancing for donations. They believe in the fundamentals of a main supernatural figure and that spirit's work through a bunch of smaller deities. But, back to the worship service. Basically the three components involved some Indian chanting, dancing, and (the best part) feasting. Most Hindus are vegetarian so the main dishes included bread, vegetables, and some sort of spicy tofu dish. Overall, it was a very interesting experience and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in trying to experience something new and wants to explore different culinary options!
The next exciting part of my weekend occurred on Saturday night when my youth group, Campus Crusade for Christ, had a formal dance party at a convention center on the West side of campus. Initially I wasn't planning on going, but after a few puppy dog faces from some girls in my group, I couldn't say no. At the end, I was really happy I went. Rather than play traditional dance music that you would here at a typical dance with kids our age, the DJ played stuff like "cotton-eyed joe, the macarena, every time we touch, and the YMCA." Yea, it sounds childish, but it was so much fun. We all just went crazy and did ridiculous dance move out there. It was fun to see how kids this old don't need a college party-like environment in order to go crazy.
Other than these two exciting events, the weekend has been pretty ugly--weather wise. All day today it rained cats and dogs; and, in the words of Forrest Gump, " it was like big ol' fat rain." But once again, I can never depend on Ohio weather to be consistent.

Five Times August- Better With You
Ugh yes, it's been raining all day. I swear, this Ohio weather is unlike anything I've ever experienced. On Sunday it was 76 and beautiful, Tuesday it started snowing hard and was like 30, and finally today it was raining and 50. Ridiculous!
But weather aside; it's been a very eventful week. Class is going to be interesting this quarter. I'm taking a comparative studies course of world religions, intro to strategic communications, the secrets of freemasonry, and math. As you could probably already guess, math is the only thing in this list that seems boring. Strat comm, to clarify, is a course on the persuasion side of marketing/advertising/sales/public relations. It's being taught by this guy who used to write speeches for government leaders on capital hill. Basically, he's incredibly persuasive. This class is really interesting and if all goes well, I can really see myself majoring in this. The different thing about this class list is that they all require a lot of different thinking: Like biology and english require more straightforward thinking, but for me religion and persuasion concepts require deep thought.
On top of class, I accepted a bid to a fraternity yesterday, Phi Delta Theta. I have no idea what to anticipate but I'm really looking forward to it. A few of my friends from my floor are already members so I have a nice comfort level there. It's going to be a great time. I’ll keep you guys posted on the transition process or at least whatever I’m allowed to discuss.
So it's Easter weekend and I hope everyone has a great time. Unfortunately, I'm stuck here in this crappy weather-infested Ohio for the break and wishing I was back in the sunshine state. But anyways, I hope you all stuff yourself with those delicious Reese’s eggs and jellybeans and think of me here in Ohio haha.

Rocket Summer- I'm Doing Everything For You
It is the final quarter of my freshman year and I cannot believe it. I remember moving into my dorm in late September and thinking this was going to be the most life changing experience of my life and the best part is that it still hasn't changed. I became an Office Assistant, a University Host, and a Buckeye Blogger! But I feel as if I need a little bit more out of my collegiate experience. That is why I have decided to check out Greek Life here at OSU.
Having grown up with a father in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a mother in the Pi Beta Phi sorority, I have always known that I would do Greek Life when I went to college. There are may reasons why I am so interested in joining a fraternity from the union of brotherhood, to the social networking, and to the unforgettable experiences throughout the Greek system. As of right now I have narrowed down my search to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Delta Theta, and Beta Theta Pi. I feel like all of these fraternities have different aspects to offer and I hope to find one that fits me perfectly.
Right now I am watching Michigan State vs. UCONN in the Final Four Semifinals match. Hopefully Sparty can pull out a victory because that would be awesome to see The Big Ten representing in the Championship. Besides, we crushed MSU in the Big Ten Tournament so I don't have a problem cheering for them =)

So now I am back in C-bus after a very eventful spring break. I like to think that I covered the bases on my trip: a visit to UF, 5 days in Daytona Beach, a day at Magic Kingdom, and even had some time left over to spend with my family. As you can imagine, I am exhausted. Whew.
In a nutshell, spring break was a blast. As I mentioned before, I went down with 13 people from my floor in Smith Hall and we all stayed at the same hotel. When we arrived, everyone from the Florida schools was leaving, so the main spring break festivities were over. But this was fine because all we wanted to do was lay out by the pool and chill. For the most part all we did was spend time at the beach/pool and go dancing at night...yeah even I got my groove on. After the beach, a few friends came home with me to Orlando and we went to Disney and saw "I Love You, Man." If you haven't seen it yet, please do, it's hilarious.
So now that I am back at school, life could not possibly be anymore stressful. As a part of the University Host Program, we have to all prepare for GoBuckeye Day, which is the most important day for incoming freshman. There are supposed to be about 800 students (with their parents) all scattered around campus looking for their desired colleges and events related. I'm really looking forward to meeting incoming freshman and sharing my passion for this school. Then I have to work a ton at the front desk of Smith to make up for all of the money spent over break, and finally I have to find a job for the summer and a place to stay in Columbus. To clarify, I am trying to stay in Columbus to work towards my residency, which would ultimately bring down my tuition costs. Overall, I am really looking forward to working as a Host. When my parents asked me what I wanted to do with my life, I told then that anything that involves Ohio State. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I could honestly work the rest of my life trying to sell this place to incoming students and trying to share my experiences. (Imagine, I've only been here one year, I can't imagine how I'll feel after three more years--oh boy!)

Kenny Chesney- There Goes My Life
FINALS, FINALS, FINALS!
It is such a glorious feeling to be done with exams and to finally put an end to the late night cram sessions and diet of vitamin water and Swedish fish. To be honest, my workload for this exam week wasn’t as bad as everyone else: I only had two exams and both of them were on the same day. I know it’s crazy, out of four classes, I only had two exams. Well English’s final was a HUGE paper worth like 45 percent of our grade and my Freshman Seminar did not have one. By the way, I cannot remember if I explained what a FS is, but it’s a class that OSU offers for freshman on stuff that is actually interesting. I mean don’t get me wrong, physics and mathematics are a blast, but it doesn’t compare with reading tabloids and discussing them in class (that was the premise of my entire class- I know, awesome!) But anyways, I feel like I did OK. Math sucked as always and Bio was pretty easy. Hopefully I did Ok.
So now onto the awesome part of my blog:
As I type, I am sitting in an airport, once again, waiting for my plane to come so I can go back to Florida and take in the sun. It is now officially spring break! Yeahhhhhhhhh! This is going to be a blast. For the first time ever, I am going to do the whole spring break thing, you know like sitting on the beach with your best buds for days without a care in the world. It’s funny; about 15 people from my dorm floor and myself have all booked rooms in the same hotel in Daytona Beach, Fl. So instead of getting away from all the craziness that I experience everyday with these people, I now get the chance to celebrate spring break with them as well. It is going to be awesome. Just five days on the beach, getting a tan, and having nothing to do. This trip is long overdue.
And now onto the second part of my “questions about OSU” segment. Last time I covered size and where the best place to live is (being very biased). So now I have decided to talk about the most important aspect of any transition from home: the food. How good is the food at The Ohio State University? On a letter grade scale, I would give it a B-. But on the scale for typical types of food at college, I would give it an A. Whatever you like, we have it: there’s pasta, organic food, pizza, Chinese food, paninis, subs, etc. The only reason why I feel that it OSU is slacking is because there is no place to get a good cheeseburger. There are like 5 pizza joints on this campus, a Chipotle, and a lot of fast food, but not a good place to get a nice burger and fries (I’m not talking about the fast food version, just the campus style burgers. But if you prefer a subtler approach like pizza and a coke (or “pop”) then you’re in heaven. Even if you ever get tired of the traditional campus food style, OSU offers meals at The Blackwell and The Viewpoint, two upscale restaurants where you can get a steak, vegetable, and an unbelievable dessert for only 3 swipes (meal swipes). In a nutshell, there is a lot to eat here and there is no reason why you should ever go hungry.

So as you all could have guessed, it is time to focus again, which means that it is slowly becoming finals week. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh not again!! But the best part about this one is thinking about what comes after the exams: home and spring break- oh yeah.
Speaking of spring break, we have had the most amazing weather for the past few days here. I can't remember if it was last Thursday or Friday but all of a sudden it seemed as if someone hit a switch and it became 68 and sunny. It was unbelievable. Everyone was out on the Oval playing frisbee, baseball, football or just goofing around. The weirdest thing is that this weather feels a lot better than the hot days I'm used to in Florida because I have nothing to look forward to. In other words, since I suffered 4 months of gruesome winter cold, this warmth is like my saving grace. Hopefully it never goes away.
So I don't remember if I mentioned this or not, but I am now a University Host and am loving every moment of it. There is nothing better than talking about what makes OSU better than any other university out there and I feel as I could major in being a buckeye. The training for this job is interesting: I had to take another campus tour and shadow the whole overview process. Basically, I had to watch the whole slideshow about OSU's academics, community life, traditions, and why I should come here, even though I am already a current student. There were many times when I connected with the presentation, such as the ones about out-of-state perspective and tuition costs, and this made me remember what I am here to do: get an education. Then the dagger--the speaker discussed the pride of the Buckeye family and showed Script Ohio and everyone in the 'Shoe screaming. Ahh pure bliss... there is no sight better in the whole world. Well at least in Ohio.
Now as promised, I am going to review some stuff that perspective students or admitted students may have concerns about when deciding on if he or she should come to Ohio State. One of my biggest concerns was size and, "am I going to get lost?"
Depending on where you live your first year (North, South, or West Campus) you will become accustomed to that area and all of the important buildings surrounding it such as classes and places to eat. For me personally, I live on South campus (Smith Hall) and I have centered everything around my building and made a map based on landmarks. For example, I live near Drinko Hall, which is the college of law, and right next to the new union, the south oval, and Jesse Owens South (a south campus gym). This way has helped me out a ton when I come back from class and see 4 identical towers, knowing one them is my home- Smith. The first two weeks of school help you out a ton when it comes to locating things, it really did for me. During the first week of class, there are university workers that set up tents full of food, drinks, and maps, and help you find your bearings and your way to class. Honestly, I must have been to these tents at least 2 times a day- no joke. The one thing that our president E. Gordon Gee strongly believes is that " you can make a large campus smaller but you can't make a small campus bigger." There is so much to do on this campus that if you wanted, you could find something to do everyday at all of them (North, South, West). Even though it appears intimidating, it's very easy to get accustomed to this place to the point where it slowly becomes your home.
